GUIDE RECIPE
It’s so easy to create a simple Soap Bar. To create your very own set of handmade soap bars, here is what you’ll need:
  • Melt & Pour soap base – slice into meltable chunks
  • Fragrance if you wish
  • Add dried botanical if you wish
  • A soap mould and slicer
  • Microwave / double boiler
  • Open / cut - Determine amount of melt and pour soap base needed for your project. Carefully slice soap base into smaller cubes, doing this will make the soap easier to handle and melt.
  • Melt - Heat at melting temperature between 80°C - 90° If you are melting in a microwave, please be careful and keep an eye on the soap as it can bubble over the container. If you are melting in a double boiler on stove Stir between intervals until liquid. gradually heat the soap base ensuring that the soap melts evenly and does not boil and burn. Add water 1-2% for moisture loss while melting.
  • Mix - Stir in you can use Essential Oils, Fragrances, Colours, Botanicals and Additives. Simply add to the melted soap base, mix gently ensuring that any fragrance you have added is evenly distributed throughout the soap base.
  • Pour - working quickly, simply pour your soap base into your soap mould. Remove the soap from the mold after it solidifies and pack it in a shrink wrapping paper.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

No additional lye is normally added to a ready melt & pour base. Melt, customise within sensible limits, pour and allow it to set.

Melt & pour soap can attract moisture from humid air. Allow bars to cool fully and wrap them promptly in suitable moisture-resistant packaging.

Too much liquid additive can soften the base, reduce lather or affect set. Keep additions controlled and test the complete recipe before scaling.

A careful re-melt is often possible, but repeated heating can drive off water and fragrance and may change texture. Use the minimum heat needed.

Pour smoothly, avoid unnecessary whipping and use your normal bubble-control method suitable for melt & pour soap. Excessive mixing usually creates more trapped air.

Yes in small, well-dispersed trials, but insoluble powders can settle, speckle or change lather. Pre-disperse where appropriate and test suspension.

Avoid adding extra water simply to make the base thinner. It can increase softness, shrinkage and sweating. Control temperature and process instead.

Heat and the soap matrix can change fragrance perception. Add fragrance with controlled temperature and compare the bar after it has fully cooled.

Usually yes if each layer is poured at a compatible temperature and given enough surface contact. Make a small trial to confirm adhesion between layers.

Keep finished bars wrapped and away from high humidity, heat and direct sunlight to reduce sweating, scent loss and surface changes.
