    Run a filled-pack compatibility test with the exact formula. Check the bottle, pump, gasket and dip tube for swelling, softening, stress cracking, leakage, odour transfer and spray changes over the intended storage period.

    Air in the pump, a poorly cut dip tube, particles, high viscosity or crystallised material can interrupt the spray. Prime the pump, inspect the tube and filter the formula where appropriate; do not force thick or particulate products through a fine-mist pump.

    If required, trim it so the end reaches close to the bottom without pressing flat against it. An angled cut can help prevent the opening from sealing against the base of the bottle.

    Leave enough room for the pump assembly and normal expansion instead of filling to the brim. Determine the practical fill volume with the actual closure fitted and verify net quantity by weight or calibrated filling equipment.

    The pump chamber and dip tube initially contain air. Several priming strokes may be needed to draw liquid through the tube; persistent failure suggests a pump, viscosity, tube-length or blockage problem.

    A bottle that looks secure on the bench can leak under vibration, pressure changes or temperature cycling. Test the complete filled pack in the orientation and transport conditions relevant to your shipment.
