Ectoin is a small cyclic amino-acid derivative belonging to a group of protective molecules known as extremolytes. These molecules were originally identified in microorganisms that survive highly demanding environments. In cosmetic formulations, Ectoin helps maintain an organised hydration environment around skin proteins and cellular structures, supporting moisture retention, skin comfort and barrier resilience. Its excellent water solubility and broad formulation compatibility make Ectoin suitable for facial serums, moisturisers, toners, gel creams, eye-care products, scalp products, after-sun formulations and sensitive-skin care. |
