FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do not use this preservative blend in leave-on cosmetics for markets such as the EU where CMIT/MIT is restricted to rinse-off products. Always verify the rules for the destination market before formulating.

Commercial CIT/MIT blends are supplied at a defined active concentration. Calculate the active preservative in the finished product from the current COA/TDS rather than copying the as-supplied percentage from another supplier.

No blanket recommendation should be made. The sensitisation profile and market restrictions require careful application-specific regulatory review; in the EU the CMIT/MIT mixture is not permitted in leave-on cosmetics.

Yes. Preservative stability and efficacy depend on the complete formulation. Keep pH within the exact supplier guidance and confirm efficacy with finished-product testing.

Only for a clear formulation reason and after checking compatibility, total preservative limits and market rules. More preservatives do not automatically create a safer or milder product.

No. A recommended preservative does not prove your finished shampoo or wash is adequately protected. Use appropriate microbiological/challenge testing for the final formula and packaging.

It is mainly relevant to water-containing systems. An oil-only product has different microbial risks and preservative compatibility; use a preservation strategy designed for the actual product.

The allowed active concentration can be very low. Small weighing errors can create significant active-level errors, so use suitable scales, dilution controls and documented batch calculations.

Do not make that claim based on the preservative system. Isothiazolinones are well-known sensitisers, and finished-product claims require appropriate substantiation and regulatory review.

No. Preservative permissions and concentration limits vary by jurisdiction and product type. Check the destination market before sale rather than relying on one country’s formula.
