Description: Sodium Benzoate is a preservative used in many cosmetic formulations such as lotions, creams, ointments and deodorants for anti-fungal properties. Sodium Benzoate protects against bacteria and yeast. It is most active in formulations with a pH of 4.5 or lower. Because it is not broad spectrum, Sodium Benzoate should be combined with other preservatives such as Potassium Sorbate.

Use: All kinds of cosmetic formulations such as lotions, creams, ointments and deodorants

Application: Mix into water phase of formulation. Usage rate of 0.1% - 1%.

Ingredients: Sodium Benzoate

While we do not offer products for internal use, we source only high-quality, pharmaceutical or food-grade ingredients. Ingredient purity and performance are critical in cosmetic applications, just as they are in ingestible products.

Please note:
Just because two products have the same name or CAS number does not guarantee the same grade, purity, or effectiveness. Always choose trusted suppliers. Choose Purenso for premium-grade ingredients you can rely on.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

No preservative should be assumed to work universally. Performance depends on pH, water activity, packaging, raw materials and the complete formula.

Do not solve a failed system only by adding more preservative. Investigate pH, contamination risk, packaging, ingredient interactions and the allowed use range.

A truly water-free product has different microbial risks from an emulsion or gel. Use a preservation strategy appropriate to the actual formula rather than adding a water-phase preservative automatically.

Sometimes, but combinations should be based on compatibility, allowed use and the preservation needs of the complete product. Do not simply stack maximum use levels.

New raw materials can change pH, microbial load, solubility and preservative availability. Revalidate the finished formula whenever composition changes materially.

No. Preservation is not a substitute for clean equipment, controlled raw-material handling and suitable packaging.

It can, depending on the formula and use level. Check sensory and physical stability in the final product rather than judging the preservative separately.

Check the current supplier technical data for the exact grade and measure the final formula pH after all ingredients are added.

For commercial water-containing products, appropriate preservation validation is important. A recommended ingredient percentage alone does not prove that the final product is adequately preserved.

Compare chemistry, use conditions, pH window, solubility, market restrictions and finished-product validation. Treat it as a reformulation, not a direct swap.
