Size 100g

Description: Benzalkonium chloride is the most widely used preservative in ophthalmology. It is a quaternary ammonium compound that acts as an antimicrobial agent by denaturing proteins and disrupting cytoplasmic membranes.

Benzalkonium chloride is used as a biocide, a cationic surfactant, and as a phase transfer agent. It has pharmaceutical and medical uses as an antiseptic, often applied topically prior to surgical procedures or to minor wounds to reduce risks of infection.

Benefits:
  • Antimicrobial : Helps slowing the growth of micro-organisms on the skin and counteracts the development of microbes
  • Anti-static : Reduces static electricity by neutralizing electrical charge on a surface
  • Deodorant : Reduces or masks unpleasant body odors
  • Preservative : Inhibits the development of microorganisms in cosmetic products.
  • Surfactant-dispersing : Help distribute an insoluble solid in a liquid phase. Suspensions or dispersion of liquids in a second liquid are generally called emulsions.

Use: Can be used in concentrations of 0.5–2% for hair conditioner, 0.13% for antiseptics, and 0.1% (wt/vol) for disinfectants.

Application: Used in the formulation of shampoos, personal cleanliness products, skin cleansers, wet wipes and skin care and eye makeup preparations
